ARA-290 is an 11-amino-acid peptide that selectively activates the innate repair receptor (IRR), a heteromer of the erythropoietin receptor and the IL-3 receptor beta chain. Unlike erythropoietin itself, ARA-290 does not stimulate red blood cell production, isolating the tissue-protective and anti-inflammatory signaling pathway. Small human trials have investigated ARA-290 for sarcoidosis-related small fiber neuropathy and diabetic neuropathic pain, with preliminary positive results.
